These activities are available in the over 42,000 acres of recreation land including state parks and game lands, a wildlife management area, the Fort Indiantown Gap Military Reservation and so much more.
Locally…
The Southeast Playground is just across the alley behind the home. This playground provides basketball courts, baseball fields and a tot playground on about 2.3 acres.
Coleman Memorial Park is located about 2 miles from the home but still within the city. The park features over 99 acres of green space. Once the home to Coleman Family Mansion the park now offers many recreational opportunities. It features three playgrounds, four tennis courts, and one basketball court. In addition, there are four baseball fields and a soccer field. The nature trail traverses 1.6 miles throughout the park. While enjoying the trees and nature keep an eye out for rare specimens of trees and shrubs planted by the Coleman Family. The park has multiple pavilions for rent and The Veteran’s Memorial Amphitheater to enjoy music in the park or rent for events.
The Southwest Park is just a little over one mile from the home. It features baseball and softball fields, basketball and tennis courts, soccer fields. A newly built playground has lots of options for kids of all ages to enjoy. There is also a restroom and the Optimist Building. The park sits on a little over 27 acres.
In the County…
Within Lebanon there is Stoever’s Dam Park in the northeast section of the city. This park offers 153 acres for camping, picnicking, canoeing, fishing, and hiking. A 23.5-acre lake centers the park and has a 1.5-mile trail that encircles it. The park is home to the Nature Barn, a 125-year-old barn featuring nature displays and in-house green house.
Next, the Swatara State Park is about 14 miles north of the house. This outdoor oasis features 3,520 acres of outdoor recreation. There are 18.2 miles of hiking trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding. There are also several access points to Swatara Creek for tubing, canoeing, kayaking, or fishing.
Another great spot for outdoor recreation is the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail. This is a national recreation trail that runs throughout the county and connects to trails in surrounding counties. It is a great spot for walking, riding bike or horseback riding in some areas. The rebuilt trail is put together from two local railroads, The Cornwall & Lebanon Railroad and The Cornwall Railroad. Once completed this will be a 25-mile trail. There are multiple trail heads with one about a mile from the home accessing a nearly 18-mile section of active trails.
School District…
The home is in the City of Lebanon School District. This public-school district is comprised of five elementary schools, a middle school and high school. Lebanon City School is home of The Cedars. The student population of Lebanon City School District is a little over 5,300.
