The park provides the opportunity to launch your boat or paddlecraft to explore the river. Along with the water access are picnic areas and historical markers. An outfitter is on-site in the park seasonally offering canoe, kayak and bike rentals. You can also access the 14-mile Northwest Lancaster County River Trail for biking and hiking. This trail connects the historic river towns and villages of Columbia, Marietta, Bainbridge and Falmouth.
Another close by park, Washington Boro Park is a four-acre riverfront park about a mile and a half south of the property. The park features a playground, baseball field, basketball court and pavilion. It is also home to the annual Tomato Festival held every July. This park site and nearby area contains one of the highest concentrations of archaeological sites in Pennsylvania.
Columbia itself also has multiple playgrounds all within about 2-3 miles of the property. And the Wrightsville Riverfront Park is just across the river which offers additional opportunities to access the Susquehanna River.
A little bit further down the road…
The Turkey Hill Nature Preserve and Overlook Trail are just under four miles south of the property as well. This Lancaster County Conservancy site is over 25 acres large. It meanders along the shoreline of the river and features a summit with breathtaking views. Hikers can enjoy paths through the forest along with flat walking and steep switchbacks. It is a great location to watch for bald eagles, vultures, ospreys and other birds. These birds tend to rest and feed on the nearby Conejohela Flats year round. The preserve is open to archery hunting. It is also home to groves of pawpaw trees which produce the United States’ larges native tree fruit. The trail is a trailhead for the Enola Low Grade Rail Trail. This trail follows the Atglen and Susquehanna Branch of the Pennsylvania railroad. This section has two Trestle Bridges and is apart of a 19 mile trail.

The property is located in Washington Boro in the northwest corner of Manor Township and western part of Lancaster County. Washington Boro is situated on the east bank of the Susquehanna River opposite Leibharts Corner in York County. The Susquehanna in this area is impounded by the Safe Harbor Dam 7 miles to the southeast which forms Lake Clarke. It is also the center of what was known in colonial times as the Conejohela Flats. Washington Boro covers a total area of 1.9 square miles and has a population under 1,000.
The small town of Columbia is just up the river from Washington Boro. This town, formerly known as Wright’s Ferry was once considered as a location for the Nations Capital. These small towns along the banks of the Susquehanna River are the Riverlands of Lancaster County and are a part of the Susquehanna National Heritage Area. John Wright an English Quaker and his companions Robert Barber and Samuel Blunstons began to develop the area in the early 1700’s. The area is home to many historical sites.
